There’s been a few things going on…

apoth-red-six The housemate and I have finally played Apotheca! It was quite fun; we played three games in about an hour, fifteen minutes of which was trying to set up and understand it. It’s a very simple game straight off, and only gets slightly more complex as you understand it – it sort of depends on how you’re playing. We’re debating some modifications to make it longer; mostly assigning colours to the apothecaries which would mean you’re trying to get certain combinations, rather than any three in a row; and playing with more players, which is not suggested but we think could be quite fun. So I suspect we’re going to end up with some house rules!

apoth-yellow-sixThe game itself is beautiful; the individual potions cards all have their own little things in the bottles, and the artwork is just stunning. It’s one of those games (along with Forbidden Desert and a recent find, Above & Below) that is as beautiful to play with as it is fun.

I did finish my crafty-project-that-I-couldn’t-talk-about a few months back; it was a compilation of all of our Dresden Files write-ups and games, and I really enjoyed doing it. I did geeky things like grab the font used in the DFRPG book, find pictures of our characters, add a frontsheet for each file to say the dates and who was involved…it felt like a nice way to wrap everything up.

The rest of my crafty stuff has been sporadic; I’m still working on my latest alphabet sampler (dinosaurs, superheroes and comics!) and the dress-making has been ongoing whenever I get a chance. The house is slowly progressing – fence-painting, not the most thrilling job in the world. On the music front, I recently got my grubby little mitts on a duet-and-piano version of A Whole New World, which I’m learning with the housemate, and also a piano-and-vocal book of Disney songs. Guess what our house is going to be humming for the next few weeks?

Lizard_watchingAnd finally, some bad news; Pep, our bearded dragon, died a few weeks ago. She was pretty old for a lizard – we reckon about eight to ten, as we got her as a youngling and don’t really know how old she was then beyond “about three”. She had a cuddle from me, went to sleep in her tank and didn’t wake up again, so we’re grateful there wasn’t anything wrong with her (lizard diseases are famously annoying and hard to diagnose or treat!). We’re all definitely missing the beady eye watching out of the tank, just keepin’ an eye on what the humans are doing…

That said, Frankie is most definitely enjoying the undivided attention. His current sleeping spot is on top of the kindling basket…I have no idea why!
