An apple.

Green skin, delicately shaded with red and gold. Bite: it refreshes and fills.

The number of twists of the stalk gives you the first letter of your beloved’s name. Peel the skin whole, throw it over your left shoulder and see the initial of your husband in its twisted curls.

An apple of the Hesperidies gives eternal youth; an apple of Eden, knowledge or eternal life. A golden apple caused the Trojan War; three caused Atlanta’s marriage; and Snow White slept with one red bite. Fruit of the Fall, and of autumn.
